Have recently been sent some soft plastic samples from Andy @ Jacks LRF http://jackslrf.co.uk This online supplier specialises in soft plastics and tackle at the lighter end of the scale. Some really interesting lures available, sourced from far and wide, to bring you a wide selection to choose from.
I am particularly excited to try the 2" Senko variations, the Wrasse are going to love them, and perfect for fishing with on the light gear. The larger 'double ended' lures also look great, with the versatility to be used as they are, or can be cut in half to be used as a smaller lure.
Will be getting these lures wet over the next few sessions. Had a Thursday night meet up with some of the Plymouth crew this week, and fished with some of the tiny paddle tails as seen above. Was great to have a catch up with some people I have not fished with since the cold dark winter days. The lures worked well too, with a nice little Scorpion Fish and a Wrasse being landed.
Once again, big thanks to Andy @ http://jackslrf.co.uk Good to see people offering more choice, and pushing the Light Rock Fishing and Hard Rock Fishing game further forward in the UK.

3 Session Catch Up Report 17-05-2011
Report covering 3 sessions from this week, at three different areas;
14-05-2011 First up a quick after work session at home, on my doorstep in Bigbury Bay. The strong Westerly winds were making things difficult, managed to find a slightly sheltered spot, deep rocky water with thick kelp.
Tackle of choice was a Nories Slow Retrieve (0.9-5g) with a '10 Certate 2506 and Varivas 0.3PE braid, 4lb Fluoro leader. Mixture of LRF metals and softs used. Not much action going on, but was my first time trying this particular spot from shore, have tried a couple of times from Kayak close in before. Only managed 3 small Pollack and a micro Wrasse!
16-05-2011 Second session was the same place I fished last week with Ben, East side of the Lizard, Cornwall, near the Helford. This time I arrived at a spring low tide, possibly too low to fish successfully. The rocky, weedy outcrops were high and dry, and the water sat over the low tide estuary bed, with no real cover for the fish. Again, wind was an annoying factor, but no swell.
Walked from the estuary out to a headland point, all along the low tide rocks, which are usually covered, when I have fished there before. By the time I reached the point, tide had been flooding for an hour, and the fish started to turn on, as the rock and weed became covered. Tackle today was a Nories Seabass Game (5-12g) with a '10 Certate 2506 with 0.8PE line. Texas rigged soft plastics from Nories and the Ecogear 4" Paramax. Most the fish were on the small side, one coming in around 42cm mark, 9 Wrasse in total;
17-05-2011 Today went out for two hours to a South Coast mark in West Cornwall I often fish. Headed to a rocky headland in the opposite direction to which I usually fish. Arriving at low tide meant I could access large rock formations that are covered withing a couple of hours of the tide pushing from low. Some deep gullies, with thick kelp and boot lace weed.
Today was the first time I targeted the Wrasse with my light LRF line. Combined with my Nories Slow Retrive (0.9-5g) and '10 Certate 2506, I was using the Varivas Super Trout Edition 0.3PE braid (5lb) with a 6lb fluoro leader. The lure of choice was a 3" Slug-Go Texas rigged (2g weight) with a selection of size 4 and size 2 hooks used. A healthy blob of Mega Strike fish formula was also smeared onto the lure.
The fishing was done at very close range, mostly vertical jigging and deadstick. Simply allowing the lure to sink down between the kelp heads, pretty much beneath the rocks I stood on. Just short flipped casts. Here is the type of gulley the fish were taken from;
4 fish taken, the biggest fish of the day came in at 45cm and 3lb 2oz, which is the biggest I have taken on the LRF rod, and certainly the biggest fish I have taken on the Varivas 0.3PE line;
Fishing vertically above the fish, ensured that a good fight on the light tackle had me at an advantage, as the fish could not take the line horizontally over and into structure. The light gear worked well in this instance, even in the heavy kelp cover.
The scoop net I recently bought is proving invaluable, especially with the lighter lines used. Continuing success with the Mega Strike fish formula, used it in all 3 sessions. Seems to ensure that each take from a fish ends up in a hook up, as if missed the first knock, pausing sees them coming back for another go. Bit of a long post, so thanks for reading.

More Light Metals and a Scoop Net
Few new additions I recently acquired;
Also got this small 'scoop' net, for landing fish at the waters edge/wading as I tend to fish pretty light. Has a Daiwa magnetic clip, and the net handle is hooked, to stow away on a belt. Very easy to fish with, extremely lightweight and has had some good use over the last couple of sessions.
The Tackle House and Reins lures all came from Mick @ Mr. Fish http://www.mrfishjersey.com/
Halco 10g Twisty (x4)
Tackle House Nabura Deka 6g

Reins Palpuntin 5g

Wrasse Bash Pt.2 - LRF Tactics 10-05-2011
Headed out to the same spot today, this time with Ben, for another crack at the Wrasse. Very similar conditions, slightly more wind, with the incredible clarity allowing you to see into the rocky weedy depths. Todays tackle of choice was the Nories Slow Retrieve rod (0.9-5g) with Texas rigged 3" Jackson Delicious Shiner SP's and a 3g sinker. I was also using the Mega Strike fish formula again, with continued good results.
Approaching our first spot, on the other side of a rocky finger, we saw a shoal of decent sized Mullet, mouthing at the surface, seemingly unaware of our presence. They continued to cruise around for most of the session, tho not interested in our Wrasse hunting gear.
Had mostly small Wrasse again today, but on the light gear, great fun. One or two of the bigger ones had some great runs, and Ben captured an awesome photo of the rod fully bent into my last fish of the day.
In one pool deep pool, Ben found a host of mini species, including tiny Wrasse, all bumping his lure. Unfortunately even tho he had the lure for the job (Power Isome Worms) the hooks were of a size to target the adult Wrasse, when something like a size 10 was needed (maybe next time!).
Over the two hour session, I took seven fish in total. It's an amazing area to fish in, with a lot more to explore in future sessions.
Finally a pic that Ben (from The Art Of Fishing) got of me bending the Nories Slow Retrieve into the last fish of the day. Such a nice rod to fish with, and the quality is superb. The range of Nories rods, the Jackson Delicious Shiner lures as seen in the pics, and much, much more quality fishing gear is available from Ben at The Art Of Fishing. Give him a call, always more than helpful with friendly advice; http://www.artoffishing.co.uk/

Wrasse Bash 09-05-2011
Massive swells and high winds down in West Cornwall - Decided if I was gonna fish, needed to find shelter. Headed off to a spot I have tried once or twice, East side of the Lizard, near Helford. Short walk found sheltered, windless conditions, lovely sunshine and flat conditions, as I was just inside the mouth.
Fished my Nories Seabass Program 5-12g with a 2506 Certate with 0.8PE. Texas rigged Nories SP's. One big difference today, I was experimenting with a fish formular, 'Mega Strike' from Mr.Fish smeared onto the lures. The result was promising, every bite led to a positive hook up, some coming from a slow retrieve, where if the lure was missed first time, the fish kept at it till hooked. Deadstick took most fish, good strong connections. Pretty sure the Mega Strike was helping out. Even the really small fish were hooking up on a 3/0 and 4.5" lure.
Forgot my camera, so it's a few VGA quality snaps from the crappy phone. Took 8 fish in total, but there was a lot of exploring done. Some fish were taken in areas that I would not usually consider, some sandy bottom stretches with occasional rock and weed. Gonna be back there tomorrow with Ben, for some double team action, maybe sniff out one or two of the large Bass I saw crusing around under feet

HRF New Grounds 03-05-2011
Very short session earlier today - Wanted to try some new grounds right on my doorstep at home. It's an area I have been told Wrasse inhabit in numbers by friends who spear fish there. Requires calm, lower water, and a good note of the tides, as it's a real cut off spot.
Spent a good hour walking around, and maybe only cast a handful of times. First retrieve amongst the deep weed filled gullies saw a fish following, followed by a take but no connection. Played the lure off a short cast back to the same area, and connected, bringing in a small Wrasse.
Next gully over, couple of casts later, deadstick amongst the weed, connected with a much bigger fish. Small battle getting him out of the weed, and landed. This one measured at 46cm and 3lb9oz.
Both fish were caught on Andy Marquis home made lures, Texas with a 3/0. Rod was my Nories RockFish Bottom Light (7-15g) with a Certate 2506 & 0.8PE. Fishing was cut short - I did not realise I had a bad wind knot whilst playing the bigger Wrasse, plus the leader snapped as I hand lined it from the water (really considering a pair of Bogas!). Although I was tucked up under a cliff, the wind was nearing gale force, and I decided that it would be best to come back and explore further on a better day weather wise. Pic below shows the wind whipping the sand across the beach surface;
Will deffo be heading back on foot again, but weather permitting, will be using a Kayak borrowed from the local surf club to get in amongst the gullies without fear of cut offs.

Pollack Bashing - LRF Metals 28-04-2011
Headed out, armed with the Nories Slow Retrieve LRF rod and a selection of small vibe metals. Headed to a spot close to Penzance, the water was the clearest I have ever seen, unreal visibility into water approx. 6-15' deep. Could see all the bottom details, where the weed and submerged rocks were, any interesting features etc...
Lures were cycled through regularly, using a micro sized Tict clip made things quick and easy. Used the Ecogear VX35 & VX40, Ecogear ZX30 & ZX40 and the Jackson Cymo, all various colours, light and dark, reflective and matt. Caught well on all the lures, started off with a really fat Launce, then 18 Pollack. Couple of pics;
One thing that is apparent, the small trebles and single hooks do lead to a lot of foul hooking, some ugly sights, but all fish were released to swim away strongly. Fished the lures in both a sink and draw style, to a constant slow retrieve. Was a really fun session, and will be adding to my small metals and vibe collection for future action.
